Welcome to the first Arithmancy lesson of the year! Today we are going to learn how to find a person's character number. Each letter of the alphebet has a corresponding number that goes with it. Example: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z (A, J, and S correspond with 1, and H, Q, and Z are 8's) ECT. ECT. ECT. To find the character number of something, use 3 simple steps: 1. Match up the numbers. 2. Add numbers. 3. Reduce numbers. Ex. H A R R Y P O T T E R 8 1 9 9 7 7 6 2 2 5 9 =65 (After you add the numbers up, reduce the answer by adding the digits together until you get a 1 digit number.) 65 = 6+5 = 11 = 1+1=2 ANSWER: 2 HOMEWORK: Please change the following words to number form: Hermione Granger, Minerva McGonagall, wand, cauldron, and your name. (Show work step by step or points will be taken off.)
